Avonworth Update

January 11, 2022

Dear Avonworth School Community,

Beginning today, January 11, the Avonworth School District will follow the updated CDC guidance for isolation and quarantine.  If your child is currently in isolation or quarantine, they can return to school when they meet the guidelines outlined below.

If you test positive for COVID-19 (regardless of vaccination status):

  • Isolate for 5 days.

  • After 5 days, you can return to school if you have no symptoms or your symptoms have resolved.

If exposed to someone positive for COVID-19:

  • A student does not need to quarantine if:

    • They have completed the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, were wearing a mask, and are symptom-free.

    • They had COVID-19 in the last 90 days.

  • A student must quarantine for 5 days if:

    • They are not vaccinated and exposed to the positive individual for 15 minutes or more at a distance of fewer than 3 ft.

If an individual develops symptoms at any time, they should stay home from school and not return until symptom-free for 24 hours.  This means a fever, sore throats, coughs, fatigue, muscle aches, etc. has fully resolved.

The following information is how 5 days is calculated for isolation or quarantine.

5 Day Isolation if COVID Positive:

  • Day Zero is the day you began having symptoms or the day you tested positive if you were asymptomatic.

5 Day Quarantine if Identified as a Close Contact:

  • Day Zero is the day you exposed to the person who is COVID positive.

To assist you with determining if your student may need to isolate or quarantine, the Allegheny County Health Department has created an app that is helpful for this purpose.  Below is a link to the app.
