2020-21 Final Budget
Members of the Avonworth School Board unanimously approved the 2020-21 Final Budget at its June 8th Legislative Meeting.
The general fund budget is $35,319,185 with no increase in the millage keeping the real estate tax rate at 19.53 mills. This equates to an annual school tax bill of $4,257 on a median valued home in Avonworth, which is $218,000. Each mill equates to approximately $1,168,000 in school property tax billings.
Included in the budget are 2.5 new teaching positons. These positions have been added to serve the increasing enrollment, which has increased by 173 students over the last three years. Additionally, $200,000 is budgeted for a one-time purchase of new curriculum. Additionally, $160,000 is included for contracted security expenses along with $227,000 for technology equipment for the district’s one-to-one initiative.
The Avonworth School District annual budget continues to be negatively impacted by the under-funded State retirement system for public employees. The mandated employer contribution rate for the Pennsylvania State Employer Retirement System (PSERS) is set at 34.51%. It is important to note that this rate has more than doubled since the 2013/14 school year when the rate was set at 16.93.
The Budget is available for public inspection to all interested residents in the district administrative office located at 258 Josephs Lane.
