High School Student Wins Prestigious Award

One of Avonworth High School's English Language Learners, Nolvin Buezo Gutierrez, won the prestigious Luminari Award, a merit-based scholarship for students who are in grades 7 to 11.

Two winners are selected based on essay submissions. Nolvin placed first in the competition. He will receive an all-expense-paid admission to Luminari‚Äôs I Want to be an Ambassador! Camp this summer. The scholarship has a value of $1,200.

This camp is a unique opportunity for Nolvin and the other participants to travel to Washington D.C. where they will engage firsthand with ambassadors and foreign diplomats. Before departing, they will prepare, here in Pittsburgh, with major business leaders and educators who will teach them the skills necessary to master the art of diplomacy.

The camp is a seven-day program that runs from June 13 through June 21, 2023. Nolvin's winning essay reflects the fact that he is a thoughtful person, who is already demonstrating great diplomacy skills in his daily life.
