School Safety Update

Dear Avonworth School Community,

Safety will always be a top priority for the Avonworth School District. Each summer, we examine our emergency operations plan for the coming year. The district has trained threat assessment teams and a strong working relationship with Ohio Township police and emergency responders. In addition, we practice and refine emergency procedures throughout the year. We share this message to proactively allow families to discuss school safety before the school year.

Each campus has a detailed reunification plan and procedures to follow in an emergency. All families must update emergency contact information for each child in our student information system, ALMA. In an emergency, the individuals listed in our system are the only people allowed to pick up a student.

Directions for Updating Emergency Contact Information in ALMA.

Should we need to evacuate a building or campus, we have identified community locations where students and staff can be relocated, and families can pick up their children. We have collaborated with these locations and the Ohio Township police to enable us to execute a safe and orderly reunification plan.

If an emergency occurs, families will be contacted via email and/or phone calls. Our gauge on when a mass message needs to be sent out is whether the situation impacted your child's typical day. At the start of the school year, each district administrator will spend time talking to all of the students regarding the overall safety and climate of the school. Age-appropriate presentations are done at each level. The building principals will communicate with you when those emergency presentations will occur.

Lastly, we encourage you and your child to be proactive if you are aware of anything that could impact a child's safety or the safety of our schools. We want everyone to operate under the premise of, if you see something, say something. Reporting concerns is an important step for students to understand. We encourage anyone with information or concerns to contact the Tip Line at 724-449-TIPS and use the Safe2Say application/website.

We hope never to need to implement any of our emergency procedures. However, we share this information so that you know what to expect should we need to implement them.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools!

Sincerely,
The Avonworth School District Administrative Team
