Avonworth Primary Center Hosts "Christmas Around the World" Celebration in Partnership with Kidsburgh
Families gathered for a festive and educational evening at Avonworth School District’s "Christmas Around the World" celebration, held in partnership with Kidsburgh. The event offered a unique opportunity for students and their families to explore Christmas traditions from four different countries: India, Japan, South Africa, and Ukraine.
The event kicked off with an exciting array of hands-on activities. In India, students crafted colorful stars to symbolize the festive spirit, while in Japan, they decorated KFC buckets, a nod to the country’s quirky holiday tradition of enjoying fried chicken for Christmas dinner. South Africa’s station allowed kids to create their own animal figures, representing the country’s rich wildlife, and in Ukraine, students made spiders, inspired by the tradition of decorating Christmas trees with spider webs for good luck.
No celebration is complete without treats, and this one was no exception. Refreshments included Grinch juice, hot chocolate, and an assortment of cookies, which kept families warm and in the holiday spirit.
This event was part of Avonworth’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity and celebrate cultural diversity, aligning with the district's participation in the “Parents as Allies” project, which involves collaboration with neighboring districts. Families were thrilled with the chance to experience something new and take part in the vibrant cultural exchange.
Looking ahead, Avonworth School District is excited to announce more “Hi Neighbor!” events planned for 2025.
The Christmas Around the World event was just one of the many ways Avonworth and Kidsburgh are working to create lasting memories and meaningful connections among families. Stay tuned for more exciting events in the coming year!
