Senior Named National Technology Award Winner

Gbemi Odebode

We are thrilled to announce that Gbemi Odebode, a senior at Avonworth, has been named a National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing (AiC) National High School Award winner. This prestigious award recognizes high school students in grades 9-12 for their outstanding achievements and passion in computing, encouraging them to further pursue their interests in technology.

The AiC High School Award celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional aptitude and enthusiasm for computing, with selection criteria based on their computing experience, leadership roles, activities, persistence, and future aspirations. Since its inception in 2007, more than 25,000 students have received the AiC Award, and Gbemi is proud to join this distinguished group.

Gbemi was selected as one of just 40 students from over 3,400 applicants nationwide. She was honored in Charlotte, North Carolina, at a special ceremony hosted by Bank of America at the end of February 2025.

Looking ahead, Gbemi is set to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fall, where she will pursue studies in computational molecular biology and computational cognition. We are excited to see the incredible impact she will undoubtedly make in the world of technology and beyond.

Congratulations, Gbemi!
