ASD Construction Update - October 2024

Construction Update

Dear Avonworth Parents & Caregivers,

After a productive summer of construction on the secondary campus, we were thrilled to welcome our students and staff back into the building for the start of the school year. Our students and staff returned to a transformed environment, with new flooring, lighting, ceilings in the high school corridors, a renovated commons/cafeteria, and exterior site improvements. The work is progressing well, with most of the final work being completed in the auditorium and two-story middle school addition.

Click this link to see our construction manager’s most recent update, which includes photos of work completed before the start of the school year. All construction updates and information can be found on our website.

The project is on track to meet the substantial completion date of December 13, 2024. Once work is completed on the construction side of the project, furniture will be delivered and set up, middle school classrooms currently in the high school will be moved to the new space, and high school classrooms will be able to move into the spaces currently occupied by the middle school.

We look forward to bringing our sixth grade to the middle school building on January 27, 2025. Below are some important dates for current sixth-grade parents/caregivers. Dr. Hall, the middle school principal, will provide details for these events.

  • November 13, 2024 - 6th Grade Parent/Caregiver Meeting with Dr. Hall, 6:00 PM
  • January 21 & 22, 2025 - 6th Grade Student Move-Up Days
  • January 23, 2025 - Parent/Caregiver/Student Open House, 6:00 PM
  • January 27, 2025 - First Day for 6th-Grade at the middle school

Look for information on a community open house in the spring. This open house will allow all community members to tour the new building.

The new design elements at the High School and Middle School are designed to enhance our students’ learning environment. However, I want to acknowledge the safety concerns regarding the design that some parents have brought to my attention. The district consistently assesses the safety and security of all buildings and adds measures to increase safety, including at our new High School and Middle School building.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) has continued to provide school districts with funds annually. Each year, the district utilizes the funds to take additional safety measures. A critical component of our safety plan is keeping specific safety measures private, as sharing them could compromise safety. I assure you that we are currently working on new safety measures to implement at the secondary campus and also our primary/elementary campus.

We hope your student has had a great start to the school year. We look forward to seeing this construction project completed this school year and for our students to fully experience the incredible learning spaces created for them in this project.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey M. Hadley, Ed.D.
