Alaina Kosarych Revives JAM at Avonworth for Her Gold Award Girl Scouts Project
Avonworth High School junior Alaina Kosarych has taken a meaningful step to bring JAM (JAMbethekindkid) back to the Avonworth community as part of her Gold Award Girl Scouts project. Alaina's efforts began with planning an organizational meeting that was held on January 8, 2025.
The event provided student participant and their parents with an overview of how the program will operate and an opportunity for the children to voice their ideas about which organizations they would like to support. During the meeting, attendees got hands-on with their first act of kindness: assembling 60 Valentine treat bags for the Meals on Wheels program in Ensworth. This initiative exemplifies the spirit of JAM, which is rooted in spreading kindness through making and giving.
JAMbethekindkid Inc., a nonprofit organization, originated at Avonworth Primary Center in Pittsburgh, PA. It empowers students in grades K-6 to create and sell items, such as the well-known registered #bethekindkid shirts, with 100% of the proceeds donated to charitable causes. Alaina’s project aims to expand this impactful work by engaging older students and ensuring the program’s sustainability.
Looking ahead, additional JAM meetings are scheduled for January, February, March, and April. These sessions will provide more opportunities for participants to engage in meaningful projects and make a difference in their community. Alaina and her mentor are hopeful that her efforts will pave the way for another high school student to take the reins in the years to come, ensuring the continued success of JAM at Avonworth.
