Welcome to Avonworth Elementary!
My name is Dr. Bill Battistone and I am the Principal at Avonworth Elementary School! I have been serving as an administrator in this district since the Spring of 2017, and I am excited to be a part of the Antelope Community. I moved to Pittsburgh from Iowa City, Iowa, where I served as a K-6 Assistant Principal for two and a half years. Prior to that position, I was a teacher in West Des Moines, Iowa.
I attended Drake University in Des Moines where I received my Undergraduate Degrees (Education, History), my Master's Degree (Educational Leadership), and my Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. in Educational Leadership). I consider myself to be a "life-long learner," and am always searching out new and innovative ways of thinking!
When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, playing golf and rugby, and watching the Pittsburgh sports teams and the Iowa Hawkeyes! My wife and I have been married since 2016, and we have a dog and a cat who get along just fine!
I am very proud to be the Principal at Avonworth Elementary! We have wonderful students, parents, faculty, and staff members. My office is always open and I look forward to connecting with you soon!
All of my best,
Bill Battistone, Ph.D.

Beyond my love of learning, I enjoy spending time outdoors
hiking, trail running, and kayaking with my dog, Ella Mae. Some may remember me from performances in our
school musicals and singing the National Anthem at athletic events. Now, I do most
of my singing in the car on long road trips, in my house doing chores, and at
church with a worship team. One of my favorite things to do is spend time
playing and reading with my nephews and niece.
